The weekly review:fix 1 mistake a week.
A weekly trading review is where traders actually improve. Not by adding a new strategy, but by finding the 1 mistake that keeps coming back and fixing only that.
It takes 20 minutes on Friday evening or Saturday, and it closes the loop between your plan and what you actually did.
1. Compare trades with plans
Open your journal. For every trade, answer 1 question: did I follow the plan? Mark each trade as followed or not.
2. Find the pattern
Look only at the trades where you did not follow the plan. What do they have in common? Entering before the release, moving the stop, trading a market that was not on the list?
3. Fix 1 thing
Write 1 rule for next week that fixes that pattern. Just 1. Next week’s review checks whether it worked.
Use it in real trading
The tool informs the decision, it never makes it. Here is how it plays out on real trading days.
3 of 4 losing trades were entered before the release. Next week’s rule: no entries 15 minutes before a high-impact event.
A week later, 0 trades before releases. The rule worked, and the next review looks for the next pattern.
Mistakes to avoid
- Reviewing results instead of decisions.
- Fixing 5 things at once.
- Skipping the review after a good week.
What makes it different
Your plan, the context at the time and your journal sit in 1 terminal, so the review compares what you knew with what you did.
Questions
How long does the review take?
About 20 minutes.
What if I followed every plan?
Then review whether the plans themselves were good.
Do I need a journal?
